Braving brisk temperatures and morning showers, teachers and their families came out yesterday morning to support CEA’s charitable arm, the Connecticut Education Foundation (CEF), now in its fifth year as an official charity of the Eversource Hartford Marathon. CEF raises money to help children and educators facing extraordinary personal hardships and provides scholarships for students planning teaching careers.

Teachers are in it for the long run and in it for the students. And nowhere is that clearer than in the annual Eversource Hartford Marathon, where teachers run, donate, and volunteer to help children in need.

CEA members hit the pavement at the 23rd annual Eversource Hartford Marathon today, but not all the teachers had their running shoes on—many volunteered their time in support of the Connecticut Education Foundation (CEF) and local charities.
“For the teachers, it’s not just about running in the race, but participating in a worthy cause,” said CEA Vice President and CEF President Jeff Leake.
“Joining Team CEF as a runner or volunteer gives teachers the opportunity to be part of the Connecticut Education Foundation’s fundraising efforts, while also assisting charities around Hartford,” said Leake. Read more

This is the CEF’s third year as an Official Charity of the Eversouce Hartford Marathon. The Foundation is CEA’s charitable arm, and helps teachers and children with extraordinary personal hardships as well as students planning teaching careers.

Teachers and others who are marathon runners are buzzing about today’s announcement that Northeast Utilities (NU) is the new title sponsor of the Hartford Marathon.
But we’re hoping you’ll help us spread the news that CEA’s charitable arm, the Connecticut Education Foundation (CEF), has been selected as an Official Charity for the 2014 NU Hartford Marathon.
CEF President Jeff Leake says, “We are so pleased to get this designation for CEF. Our next job is to interest marathon participants in running to raise funds for the often needy and always deserving children, teachers, and scholarship recipients that CEF helps.”
