Encouraging the Love of Reading With CEF’s 2nd Annual Reading Bus Tour
The second annual Read Across America Reading Bus Tour will be heading off across Eastern Connecticut on February 25 for a week full of visits to elementary schools. Over 1,000 fourth graders will get to board the bus for read alouds and hands-on activities, and will receive book bags, school supplies, and free books.
CEA Vice President and Connecticut Education Foundation (CEF) President Tom Nicholas joined iHeart Radio’s Renee DeNino recently to talk about the bus tour and the importance of reading in children’s lives. Listen to the interview here.
The Read Across America Tour is organized by the CEF, the nonprofit arm of CEA, and this year is sponsored by Big Y World Class Market, iHeartRadio, and the National Education Association. “And a big shout out to Plainfield, because it’s their bus that allows us to do this bus tour,” said Nicholas.
Established by the National Education Association, Read Across America is an annual event celebrated on March 2, (this year observed on March 1), the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss. The event has been so well received that it has expanded from a one-day celebration into a weeklong literacy event with more than 45 million students, parents, and teachers participating in reading parties, community read-ins, activities, character parades, book fairs, and more.
