Donate to Your Favorite Runners and Support CEF
If you’re not already a runner, you probably don’t have time to get marathon-ready before this year’s Hartford Marathon on October 11. Fortunately, you don’t have to be a runner to get involved and support a good cause.
The Connecticut Education Foundation (CEF), CEA’s charitable arm, is an Official Charity of the 2014 Northeast Utilities Hartford Marathon. The Foundation helps teachers and children with extraordinary personal hardships as well as students planning teaching careers.
Over thirty CEA members and their families and friends have signed up to run in the marathon, half marathon, 5K, or team relay, and you can contribute on behalf of a runner, or simply to the Foundation.
Bloomfield teacher Mary Kay Rendock is one of the CEA members who will be lacing up her shoes to support CEF next Saturday. “Team running has become the norm here in Bloomfield, so when we heard CEF was sponsoring the Hartford Marathon, we started planning,” she says. “We have teachers volunteering, running the 5K, the half marathon, and a team in the marathon relay.”
Rendock adds, “Supporting the CEF was a bonus. This is an awesome foundation who’s generosity has benefited both students and teachers here in Bloomfield. We were thrilled to help.”
Since its inception in 1991, the CEF has distributed more than a million dollars in assistance and scholarships. CEA Vice President Jeff Leake also serves as president of CEF. “Please consider supporting CEF’s presence at the Hartford Marathon,” says Leake. “We know with our participation we will be able to expand our outreach and provide more services and assistance to teachers and students.”
