What Do Parents Really Want to Know About Their Local Public School?

If you were considering a move to a new town, what would you want to know about the local public schools? Many states share data on schools — similar to Connecticut’s Strategic School Profiles — with residents, but are standardized test scores, number of print volumes per student, and student and teacher attendance rates the kind of information that’s most important to parents?

Along with the usual test score and demographic information, Colorado’s school report cards now include items such as the amount of daily physical activity for students, whether or not a school has a nurse on staff, and other factors influencing students’ health and wellbeing.

By including this new data, Colorado has broadened the definition of what it means for a child and school to succeed. What additional  information would you like to see schools share?
