Flexibility Implementing Education Reform
Educators here in Connecticut and across the country are working hard to meet historic challenges. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan recently announced that states can request flexibility in two specific areas when it comes to implementing new evaluation systems and assessments aligned to the Common Core State Standards. Read Secretary Duncan’s letter here for complete details.
CEA leaders have been meeting and will continue to meet with State Department of Education officials to determine how to implement this potential flexibility to maximize teaching and learning opportunities for students and teachers in Connecticut. We have heard your concerns about the implementation of the new evaluation system and new statewide assessments, and CEA and AFT Connecticut will continue to advocate for the resources, support, and policies that educators need to implement these changes well.
We hope to have specifics to share with you in the upcoming weeks.
