There are a total of 44 primaries being held around the state today. Primaries are being held for Republican and Democratic voters for the offices of Governor, Senator, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Comptroller, Secretary of the State, Congress, General Assembly, and Judge of Probate. Some communities will also have primaries for Registrar of Voters.
Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz said, “Critical issues such as the economy, the environment and our state budget need to be addressed, so I am urging voters to show up at their polling places and cast ballots in the August 10th primaries to choose the general election candidates for November.”
According to the Housatonic Times, Bysiewicz hopes that turnout will exceed the 53 percent participation for the February 2008 Democratic presidential primary between President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
