81% of Public Supports Increased Educational Spending

October 4, 2011

Results of a Harris Poll released today indicate that 81% of the public supports increased educational spending.  The poll asked participants whether they support or oppose 15 issues that are often politically divisive.

It’s encouraging to hear that such a large percentage of the population is supportive of education. 91%  of Democrats, 71% of Republicans, and 80% of Independents support increased educational spending — making it one of few bipartisan issues polled.

Teachers and public education are frequent recipients of criticism from some politicians and pundits these days. It’s important to have reminders such as this that most of the public supports the work of teaching and learning.
