U.S. Senate Committee Hears from CEA on ARRA
CEA is calling on federal officials to give more specific guidance to local school districts about how to implement the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to avert teacher layoffs.
CEA Executive Director John Yrchik told U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman: “We need clear guidance and we need it on a rapid basis. If local school districts better understand the flexibility they have to use new IDEA funds in ARRA, then more than 1200 teaching jobs could be saved over the next two years.”
Senator Lieberman heard from CEA in Hartford on April 7 at a hearing of the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. The Senator is on the road getting input on ARRA for Congress as the government implements the largest federal investment ever in local public schools. Find out more.
